REV. LELAND CHESTER ANGELL
Reverend Leland C. Angell, 90, of Benson, North Carolina, died September 15, 2009, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield, North Carolina.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009, at the First Baptist Church, Plains, Kansas, officiated by Rev. Dwight Neuenschwander, brother-in-law of Boulder, Colorado.
Rev. Angell was a Kansas native and pastured churches throughout Kansas, Colorado, and other states during his ministry fro the American Baptist Association.
He was born in Meade County, Kansas, on January 30, 1919, to Eddie and Minnie Angell. Leland attended Bethany College, Mississippi College, Central Baptist Seminary and Southwestern Theological Seminary. During World War II, Leland served in the United States Army and landed on Omaha Beach, marched across France, Luxembourg and Germany under General Patton, as part of the 104th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in the European Theater.
Leland is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae Hancock Angell, of 67 years. Leland met Dorothy in Washington, D.C. while working for the F.B.I. They were married on January 31, 1942. Rev. Angell is also survived by brothers Lloyd and Max Angell; sister, Aladene Neuenschwander; son Leland Lynn Angell and wife, Linda; daughter, Jeanne Angell Tiffany and husband, Howard; daughter, Marsha Jane Angell; Daughter Larinda Angell Fuchs, and husband, Richard; son Eddie Walter Angell, and wife, Shelly; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kansas, is in charge of local arrangements.
