Peggy Burdge
Lord, thou hast been our dwelling, place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting thou art God.
Peggy especially loved these first two verses of the 90th Psalm. When she quoted them, she and I would put the emphasis on the last three words, THOU ART GOD. Not the corruptible things of this world. Not the fickle opinion of society, nor the transitory and shabby honor of man. Peggy knew in the very core of her being that in the end, only the judgment of God mattered. And though she was as we all are, weak threw the flesh. And though like the rest of us, she tended to get caught up in the cares and burdens of daily life, yet she strove to follow the leading of her Lord in her everyday service to others, to her employer, to her coworkers, and most of all to me. Peggy had many things to overcome in this life. A botched medical procedure when she was an infant left her with a twisted back and near constant pain and as the years wore on, other infirmities added to her burden as well. Perhaps even more disabilitating were the strongholds of the mind, those thoughts and ideas, which take root and exalt themselves against the knowledge of God. I am here today to tell you that through the grace of God by His Word and through His Spirit, SHE WAS VICTORIOUS! Her co-workers will tell you that in spite of her physical suffering, she maintained a cheerful countenance and a helpful manner at work. And I will testify of her conquest over the spiritual enemies of fear and pride and resentment and envy. The body that lies here today is merely an empty shell; her spirit is in Glory with her Savior. He bears the burden for the time she fell short. Her sins are covered forever by HIS BLOOD. I praise Him and thank Him for allowing me the honor of being her husband. It is more than I deserve.
