Rose Marie Peine Hill
Rose Marie passed away at the Manor of the Plains in Dodge City, Kansas this past Thursday, December 3, 2009, at the age of 90 years, one month and three days old. Her birth was the 29th of October, 1919 in Greeley, Kansas unto Walter Frank Peine and Letha Alice Scully. Her Grandparents were first generation, farming and stone sculpting immigrants from Nieheim, Westphalia, Germany and Clonmel, County of Tipperary, Ireland.
She began her career as a Registered Nurse, graduating from Kansas City General Hospital, Missouri where she met her husband while assisting in obstetric deliveries. They were married for sixty-four years until his passing in 2008.
Upon her husband’s return from overseas Army assignment and establishment of his medical practice in Meade, she continued to work as a homemaker and Mother, seeking new challenges to express her artistic talent of sketching and oil painting, the collection, matting and preservation of wild flowers, all of which displayed our life upon the high plains of southwestern Kansas.
To compliment her artistic interests, she undertook and successfully established her own small business as a florist in Meade. She chose thereafter to pursue her nursing career as a Registered Nurse at Trinity Hospital and the Western Plains Medical Complex commuting from Meade weekly. She subsequently worked as the Meade County Home Health Agency Nurse through the Trinity Home Health Care Association.
She actively participated as a member of the altar guild for the St. Augustine Episcopal Church, member of the Meade Public Library Board, assisted the Iroquois Medical Society meetings, she has been a lifetime member of Kansas’ first Chapter “A” of the P.E.O. International Sisterhood and frequent host of local bridge parties.
Rose Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hastings Hill, M.D. and her daughter, Carol Ann Hill Hatfield. She is now survived by her son, David Hill and her daughter, Becky Bredfeldt, eight grandchildren, 33 great, grand children and 6 great, great grand children.
Public Viewing will be held Sunday at the Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kansas from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 7, 2009 at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Chapel, Meade. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery Meade, located at the edge of the Jones and Plummer pioneer trail, among overlooking cottonwood trees, providing shade for a spring fed trickling of the meandering Crooked Creek, resting her alongside her husband.
