W. Leroy Lemaster
W. Leroy Lemaster died Monday December 28, 2009 at the Meade District Hospital in Meade, Kansas at the age of 82 years.
He was born November 8, 1927 in Seward County, Kansas to W.P. (Bill) and Zada DeWitt Lemaster.  He married Irene Fletcher on October 4, 1947. From this marriage two sons were born Larry W. and James A.
Leroy is survived by his wife Irene of the home, two sons Larry of Meade and Jim & wife Kay of Woodward OK. Grandchildren Kimberly Neal of Elkhart, Jimmy Lemaster of Meade, Chad Lake & family of Ft. Calhoun, NE, Carey Welden & family of Caves Springs, AR, Richard Dragoo of Meade, 8 Great Grandchildren, and brother Dean of Colorado Springs, CO.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joe and John, one grandchild Casey Lake.
In 1952, Leroy went to work for the Meade School System. He remarked at the time “he would work at the school until something better came along.” It did 39 years later “Retirement”. Many of the kids who grew up during this time still came and visited with him. Leroy volunteered 38 years with the Meade County Fire Department.  Leroy was elected to the Meade City Council and served as Mayor several terms. Leroy was President of the Meade County Historical Society and spent many hours volunteering at the museum. In 1997, Leroy was Citizen of the year. Leroy served on the Economic Development Committee. Leroy firmly believed in the future of the City of Meade and Meade County, and devoted his life to that cause.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009, at the United Methodist Church, Meade, with the Reverend Susan Greene presiding.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  The casket will be closed at the church.  Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
