Lewis Miller Wells
Lewis Miller Wells, age 81, died early Friday morning, October 9, 2009, at Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
He was born November 17, 1927, at Hugoton, Kansas, the son of Reverend Rolley Lewis and Martha Helen (Miller) Wells. He was a graduate of Syracuse High School and Wichita State University.
A resident of Plains since 1950, he owned Wells Clothing and Gifts for 40 years, and was Plains City Clerk for 37 years.
On December 21, 1947, he married Maxine Rickers at Plains, Kansas.
He was a member of the Plains United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Wichita Consistory, and Lions Club and was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy.
He is survived by: His wife, Maxine Wells of Plains, Kansas; A son, Jeffrey Wells and wife, Margie of Liberal, Kansas; A daughter, Janis Intlehouse and husband, Steve of Hanover, Virginia; A sister, Elinor Keesling of Newton, Kansas; Two granddaughters, Candice and Crystal; Six great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Alex, Elizabeth, Aleiah, Desirae, and A.J.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Delbert Wells; and three sisters, Neta Mae Bullard, Frances Trotter, and Opal Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at the Plains United Methodist Church, Plains, with Reverend Steve Morgan presiding. Interment will be in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.
The family would welcome memorials to the Plains United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
