Duane E. Campbell
Duane E. Campbell, 78, died Wednesday evening, June 2, 2010, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
He was born April 9, 1932, in rural Morris County, Kansas, the son of David McLean and Audrey (Smith) Campbell. As a young boy he attended school in rural Morris County, Council Grove, and later moving to Emporia, Kansas, graduating from Emporia High School in 1950. Upon his graduation, he joined the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
On June 10, 1956, he married Beverly Koegeboehn at St. John Lutheran Church, Lincolnville, Kansas. After their marriage the couple made their home in White City, Kansas. In 1970, they moved to Cimarron, Kansas. Later in August, 1986, they moved to Meade, Kansas, where Duane worked for the United States Natural Resources Conservation Services as a Soil Conservation Technician, retiring on April 1, 1994.
After his retirement, he worked for the Meade County Recycling Center and Graceland Cemetery District for many years.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and on the practical services committee; AAL, serving as a past president of the congregational branch; Lutheran Laymans League, serving as a congregational representative; and the American Legion Post 92, Meade. He enjoyed gardening, attending coffee breaks, working puzzles, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by: His wife, Beverly Campbell of Meade, Kansas; A son, David Campbell of Olathe, Kansas; Two daughters, Linda Campbell of Red Oak, Texas and Lisa Hogan and husband, Tom of Cimarron, Kansas; A brother, Robert Campbell of Elgin, Nebraska; Two sisters, Margie Campbell of Lincoln, California and Dorothy Holm of Junction City, Kansas; Two granddaughters, Abbygail and Gretchen Hogan of Cimarron, Kansas
He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Church, Meade, with the Reverend Lynn E. Spencer presiding. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment followed at 11:30 a.m. in the Cimarron Cemetery, Cimarron, Kansas.
The family would welcome memorials to St. John Lutheran Church, Lutheran Hour, or Meade District Hospital in care of the funeral home.
