Casper J. ‘Cap’ Jacobs
Casper J. “Cap” Jacobs, age 76, passed away early Thursday morning, August 19, 2010, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
He was born August 31, 1933, at Plains, Kansas, the son of Peter J. and Felicitas E. (Herrman) Jacobs. As a young boy he was raised on the family farm three miles north of Plains and attended the Plains school system, graduating from Plains High School. After his graduation, he worked for W.R. Cottrell for a short time before moving to Dodge City and working at Fairmont Food.
On May 5, 1954, he married Nyla J. Baalman at Dodge City. After their marriage the couple made their home in Plains. Later in 1955, he was inducted into the United States Army serving until his discharge in September, 1957. Upon his discharge, he moved to Kalvesta, Kansas, where he began working for Winter Brothers Ranch. In August, 1966, Cap and Nyla moved, with their family, back to Plains. Later in 1979, they purchased a farm house thirteen miles northwest of Plains. Throughout his life, he was a farmer and rancher, retiring in 1997 while still assisting his family in various farming and ranching capacities.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Plains.
He is survived by: His wife, Nyla J. Jacobs of rural Plains, Kansas; His children, Roxanne M. Dowling and husband, Kelly of rural Dodge City, Kansas, Casper John Jacobs, II and wife, Susan of rural Plains, Kansas, Tawnya J. Hamilton and husband, Dennis of Dodge City, Kansas, Tamra R. Wheaton of Lawrence, Kansas, Leanna K. White and husband, Mike of Phoenix, Arizona, Ronald J. Jacobs and wife, Tawnya of Plains, Kansas; 2 brothers, Gerald E. Jacobs and wife, Mae of Dodge City, Kansas, Dennis Jacobs and wife, Wendy of Rogerville, Tennessee; A sister, Alice Preedy and husband, Larry of Keizer, Oregon; 21 Grandchildren, Tanner & wife Cassie, Garrett & wife Chanda, Payden, Laton Dowling; Clayton & wife Amy, Shad & wife Trista, Bailey & wife Holly, & Bo Jacobs; Tyler, Jordon & wife Deena, & Ben Hamilton; Jacob & wife Ashley, Kelsey Swanson, Kaitlin, & Jentry Wheaton; Cody, J.D. & Matt White; Dakota, Emily, & Grady Jacobs; 12 Great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother Melvin R. & Marge Jacobs; a sister, Eileen & Gene Dreher;and a sister-in-law, Marge Jacobs.
Vigil services were held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2010, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Plains. Holy mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the church with Father Jimmy Barrozo & Father Angel Dy presiding. Interment was in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.
The family would welcome memorials to St. Patrick Catholic Church in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
