Alice Marie Potter
Alice Marie (Cordes) Potter age 92, passed away June 15, 2010 at Ashland Villa surrounded by her sons.
Services were at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Home with burial immediately following in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Alice was born September 10, 1917 to Henry Walter Cordes and Lillie Nora Werdeman Cordes at home in Meade, Kansas.  She grew up in the heart of the dust storms of the 1930’s and the Great Depression.
Alice graduated from Meade High School in 1935.  While in high school, she played varsity basketball all four years.  Her senior year she was named captain and led her team to winning the state championship.
After graduation, Alice attended Business College in Sedalia, Missouri.  It was while in college that Alice met the love of her life, James (J.E.) Potter, Jr.
Alice married James Edward Potter, Jr.  on December 24, 1938 at the home of James’s uncle in Lookout, Missouri.  Alice and J.E. were married for 68 years.
Alice worked for MFA insurance and Farmer’s Mutual Hail insurance where she retired in 1976.
Alice is survived by her sons, James Potter IV, and wife Linda, Cordes Potter and wife Gayle, all of Columbia; grandchildren, Robyn Goodman and husband Brett and great grandchildren Avery and Reese Goodman of Gainesville Florida, and Samantha Potter and great grandson Braden Grathwohl of Columbia.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother.
