Oadis ‘O.B.’ Rutherford
Oadis “O.B.” Rutherford, 89, of Lindsborg, KS died July 28, 2010.
Mr. Rutherford was born September 5, 1920, the son of Jess and Stella (Meek) Rutherford, in Decatur, Arkansas.
He was a resident of Lindsborg since 2009, moving from Ft. Dodge, KS. He was sheriff of Greely County for twelve years, a farmer and rancher, and a veteran of World War II.
O.B. was an active member of the Methodist church, American Legion, VFW, Masonic Lodge, as well as a lifetime member of the Kansas Sheriff’s Association.
On May 8, 1946, he married Wilma “Rene” Hughan at Plains, Kansas, she survives. He was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister, and a granddaughter, Joyce Bennett. Survivors include wife, Rene, Lindsborg; sons: Tom, Texas; John, Oklahoma; Jack and wife, Vickie, Garden City; daughters: Margie Rutherford, Texas; Sarah Dunn and husband Don, Topeka; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Bethany Home Chapel, 321 N Chestnut, Lindsborg, KS. A fellowship lunch will be held immediately following the service at Trinity United Methodist Church, 224 S Main, Lindsborg, KS. Internment will be Monday, August 2, 2010 at Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery at Ft. Dodge, KS, with full military honors. A fellowship lunch will immediately follow at Eisenhower Hall, Ft. Dodge, KS.
