Carol (Howe) Thompson
Carol Marguerite (Howe) Thompson age 81 died peacefully August 4, 2010 at "Angel’s Touch" in Omaha NE where she resided for the past one and a half years. Prior to moving to Angels Touch she lived with her daughter Janet Elffner and family for two years.
Carol was born December 25th 1928 to Jack and Stella Howe in Stevens County, Kansas. She attended public schools in Oklahoma and graduated from Hugoton High School, Hugoton, Kansas.
Carol married Richard L. "Dick" Thompson in July 1946 in Hugoton, KS. They moved to Meade, KS where they raised their six children.
Carol was well known for her "ability" to bond with young people and her cooking. Carol worked in food service for several years as head cook in Meade High School, Meade, Kansas. After leaving Meade, Carol worked as a college housemother in Lawrence, KS, Norman, OK, Tucson, AZ and the last 15 years at the University of California, Berkley before retiring in Mesa, AZ.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Danny, sister Vernona "Nonie" Gracey, and 3 brothers, Carl, Murray, and Kenneth Howe.
Carol is survived by her children; Beverly Evans of Topeka, KS, Doug (Kathleen) Thompson of Phoenix, AZ, Jan (Bob) Elffner of Omaha, NE, Peggy (Kem) Golliher of Topeka, KS, Bill "Bobe" of Bakersfield, CA, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Fidler-Orme- Bachman Mortuary in Meade, Kansas at 10 AM on August 21, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Carol Thompson Memorial Fund care of Fowler State Bank, PO Box 130, Meade, KS 67864.
