Vivian Geraldine Wakeman
Vivian Geraldine Wakeman, age 99, died late Sunday evening, July 25, 2010, at Halstead Place, Halstead, Kansas.
She was born December 28, 1910, at Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of Guy and Agnes Catherine (Miller) Houser. As a young girl she attended the Dodge City school system, graduating from Dodge City High School in 1929. She was a lifetime resident of Ford and Meade County. Vivian as a retired secretary to the principal of the Dodge City High School.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church; the Rebekah Lodge, having served as a past Noble Grand; the Fowler Squares, all of Fowler; and the Meade County Camper Club. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, in particular Gin Rummy, and square dancing.
On August 16, 1931, she married Leslie E. “Elmer” Wakeman, at Dodge City, Kansas. He precedes her in death on April 16, 1995.
Survivors include: A son, Leslie E. Wakeman, Jr. of Salida, Colorado; Two daughters, Karen Bevan of Halstead, Kansas, Kathy Wakeman of Brighton, Colorado; Nine Grandchildren, Eleven Great-Grandchildren and One Great-Great-Grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Fowler United Methodist Church, Fowler, Kansas, with Pastor Rod Beavan and Reverend Dick Robbins presiding. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead and from 8:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the Fowler Cemetery, Fowler.
The family would welcome memorials to the Hospice Care of Kansas in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
