E. Maxine Wells
E. Maxine “Mitzi” Wells, age 87, died Friday morning, June 18, 2010, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
She was born February 12, 1923, at Plains, Kansas, the daughter of Ben and Alta (Batman) Rickers. As a young girl she attended the Plains school system, graduating from Plains High School. Upon her graduation, she further her education by attending Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, receiving her degree in High School Education and Business. After her graduation she taught school in Wichita, Kansas, and later in Fowler, Kansas.
On December 21, 1947, she married Lewis Miller Wells at Plains. After their marriage the couple made their home in Plains were she continued to teach and assisted her husband in business at the Wells Clothing and Gifts that they owned and operated for over forty years.
She was a member of the Untied Methodist Church; Methodist Women’s League; Order of the Eastern Star; and the Ladies Lions Club, all of Plains; and an investment club of Liberal, Kansas. She enjoyed reading, working cross word puzzles, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by: A son, Jeffrey Wells and wife Margie of Plains, Kansas; A daughter, Janis Intelhouse and husband Steve of Hanover, Virginia; Two granddaughters, Candice and Crystal; Six great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Alex, Elizabeth, Aleiah, Desirae, and A.J.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis on October 9, 2009; a stepbrother, Roy Krause; and a sister, Edith Reimer.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2010, at the United Methodist Church, Plains, with the Reverend Steve Morgan presiding. Interment was in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.
The family would welcome memorials to the United Methodist Church in care of the Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary.
