Mildred Maxine Powell Bond
Mildred Maxine Powell Bond, age 100, died Friday morning September 19, 2008, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.
She was born August 28, 1908, at rural Findley, Ohio, the daughter of James Garfield and Georgia Ann (Conaway) Powell.  As a young girl the family moved to the Plains area in 1918, from Ohio.  She attended the Plains school system, later graduating from Plains High School.
On September 5, 1929, she married Alvin Joshua Bond at Plains.  The couple later made their home in rural Meade County.  In addition to assisting her husband with the farm, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Plains Friends Church, having served as the treasurer for over thirty years, as a Sunday School teacher for the young children, and the church pianist.  Mildred enjoyed sewing, in particular doll clothing, gardening, correspondence with friends and family, writing poetry, and cooking.
She is survived by: Her children, Maxine Lamb of Donabate, County Dublin, Ireland, Harvey Bond of Milford, Ohio, Hubert Bond of rural Plains, Kansas; Five sisters, Cleone Herron of Hutchinson, Kansas, Martha Gowens of Phoenix, Arizona, Wanda Harvey of Richmond, Indiana, Audrey Burdette of Valley Center, Kansas, Iola Cadwallader of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Eleven grandchildren, Thirty great-grandchildren and Nine great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin on May 14, 1992; a son, Roger Bond; a son-in-law Edmund Lamb; two brothers, Ned and Don Powell; a sister, Virginia Ross; and a grandson, Kyle Bond.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at the Plains Friends Church, Plains, with Pastor Dan Biernacki presiding. Interment will be in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.
The family would welcome memorials to the Plains Friends Church or the Lone Tree Retirement Center in care of the mortuary.
