Esther Christina Brock
Esther Christina Brock, passed away at the Fowler Nursing Home on March 9, 2008, at the age of 97.
Esther Christina Brock was born May 4, 1910, on a farm south of Raymond, Kansas.  Her parents were Frank and Mary (Peter) Meyer.  She had on brother, Clifford.  Esther and her family moved to a farm south of Fowler when she was eighteen months old.  Her father moved their belongings by wagon.  Esther, her mother and brother traveled to Meade County by train. 
Esther attended the Lakeview School and graduated from Fowler High School in 1928.  On August 20, 1932, she married her high school sweetheart, Bill Brock at the Presbyterian parsonage in Dodge City.  They lived in Fowler and operated a creamery.  Sometime later they purchased a grocery store, which eventually burned in 1937.  At the end of the depression, Bill and Esther were able to purchased the family farm north of Fowler, which they farmed for more than 40 years.  Esther lived near or in Fowler for more than 95 years. 
Esther was a member of the Fowler United Methodist Church; the Lakeview Club, a club, which her mother began for neighbors; and was a past member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Esther loved her family, church, and her yard.  She spent hours growing and tending her flowers.  Everyone in Fowler knew Esther by her friendly ways and beautiful yard of red canas and other flowers. 
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, William L. on August 20, 1973, and a brother Clifford Meyer. 
Survivors include:  a daughter, Gyla Conklin and husband, David of Hugoton; a son, Gayle and wife Janice of Fowler; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. 
The celebration of life service will be held at the Fowler United Methodist Church on Friday, March 14, 2008, at 11:00 a.m.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Interment will be in the Fowler Cemetery. 
The family would welcome memorials to the Fowler Nursing Home in care of the mortuary.
