Elgeva Ediger
Elgeva Ediger, age 86, passed away at the Lane County Hospital in Dighton, Kansas on Saturday, March 8, 2008.
Elgeva Ediger was born September 19, 1921 at Arlington, Kansas the daughter of Thomas C. and Julia Mae (White) Hobbs. Elgeva lived and attended school in Plains, Kansas. Her mother died when she was 12 and close family friends by the name of Dick and Gay Spencer became “Surrogate Parents” for Elgeva. She remained close to them and helped care for Gay in her later years until her death.
On June 6, 1939 Elgeva married Martin Ediger in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After her marriage she lived in Meade, moving to California in 1965. She and her husband moved to Dighton in 1994. Elgeva loved to play bingo and work crossword puzzles. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and canning. Her peanut brittle was enjoyed by many.
Elgeva was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers – Thomas Hobbs, Millard Hobbs and Clayton Hobbs, 1 Granddaughter, Lana Cantrell and Dick and Gay Spencer.
She is survived by: her husband Martin Ediger of Dighton; 1 son – Larry Ediger of Matthews, North Carolina; 1 daughtr – Mary Jane Cantrell of Lancaster, California; 2 sisters – Nellie Smith and Virginia Habiger, both of Dighton, Kansas; 1 Granddaughter – Lezlie Licciardi; and 1 Great Grandson – Ezra Licciardi.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton, Kansas with Pastor Ken Ediger officiating.
