Hazel R (Hill) Cordes
Hazel R. (Hill) Cordes, age 94, died late Wednesday evening, February 6, 2008, at the Riverside Assisted Living Center, Wichita, Kansas.
She was born May 26, 1913, in the Logan Township, south of Fowler in rural Meade County , Kansas , the daughter of Charles Omri and Jessie (Best) Hill. Hazel Ruby Hill was named by Celestus Leonard Hill, her Grandmother, when she was born.
As a young girl she attended the Fowler school system, graduating from Fowler High School.  A lifetime resident of Meade County, having moved to Wichita in 1995 to be near family, she was a homemaker, a former telephone operator for local telephone company in the 1920’s, and had worked in the local Fraziers general store in Fowler during her high school years.
She attended the First Baptist Church, Meade, was a member of the Rolldale Club.  She especially enjoyed playing cards, bridge in particular and was a member of several local bridge clubs, playing bingo, doing craft work, and spending time with family and friends.
On December 16, 1935, she married Berend H. Cordes in Corpus Christi, Neuces County, Texas . They returned to Meade, Kansas where they resided on their farm/ranch and raised two daughters. He precedes her in death on August 23, 1982.
She is survived by: Two daughters, Mona Cordes Dobbs of Haysville, Kansas, Beverly Cordes Moomaw of Dighton , Kansas; Five grandchildren and Eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Berend H. Cordes on August 23, 1982; her parents; four brothers, Holmes  (Budd), Virgil, Bernard,  & Charles Wade Hill; five sisters, Olive (Babe) Sheddy, Fena DuBois, Gladys Smiley, and Ethel Agnes, Elsie May, and a grandson, Darris Dobbs.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2008, at the First Baptist Church, Meade, with the Reverend Harry Fink presiding. Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
The family would welcome memorials to the Riverside Village Employees Fund for Medical Equipment in care of the funeral home.
