Ivan R. Cox
Ivan R. Cox, age 79, died early Friday morning, October 31, 2008, at his Plains, Kansas, residence.
He was born October 3, 1929, at Gilman City, Missouri, the son of Paul and Lulu (Ratliff) Cox. As a young boy he moved to Plains in 1946, from Missouri. He was a 1948 graduate of Plains High School. Upon his graduation, he attended Dodge City Community College, receiving his associates degree.
On April 2, 1957, he married Lora Hughan at Clayton, New Mexico. After their marriage, Ivan began in a meat market. Later in 1958, the couple returned to Plains where Ivan began working for Dunn’s Grocery Store. Twelve years later in May 1970, he went to work for the state of Kansas as a Meat Inspector, retiring in 1992.
Ivan enjoyed playing golf, visiting with friends and family, gambling, playing cards, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by: His wife, Lora Cox of Plains, Kansas; Three sons, Paul Cox of Plains, Kansas, Jerry Cox of Plains, Kansas and Terry Cox of Plains, Kansas; A daughter-in-law, Cathy Davidson and husband, Terry of Guymon , Oklahoma; Two brothers, Dallas Cox of Jamesport, Missouri, Eldon Cox of Trenton, Missouri; A sister, Elsie Allison of Phoenix, Arizona; A half-sister, Luwann Whittman of Bellsville Garden, California; Seven grandchildren, Amber Cox, Skip Cox and wife, Desty, Ryan Cox and wife, Caitlyn, Linsey Carter and husband, Justin, Shane Cox, Shawn Cox, & Shad Cox; Seven great-grandchildren, Darrick Doeschot, Taylon Doeschot, Remington Cox, Gunner Cox,
Rylie Cox, Annie Cox, & Zev Cox
He is preceded in death by a son, Robert “Bob” Cox on August 25, 2003; two brothers, James and Dale Cox; two sisters, Wanda Woltje and Wilma Wells; and a granddaughter, Terra Cox.
Memorial services were held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2008, at the Southwestern Heights Auditorium with the Reverend Neal Foster and Pastor Rich O'Toole presiding. The family would welcome memorials to St. Catherine Hospice in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kansas.
