Lola M. Walker
Lola M. Walker, age 95, died Monday afternoon, February 16, 2009, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
She was born December 2, 1913, in rural Meade County, Kansas, the daughter of Herman and Katherine Margaret (Gruemken) Thonhoff. As a young girl, she attended school in rural Meade County. A lifetime resident of Meade, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church, Meade. Lola enjoyed sewing, crafts, quilting, and handiwork.
On March 12, 1939, she married Jesse Ordell “Zack” Walker at Dodge City, Kansas. He precedes her in death on June 15, 1992.
Survivors include: Three daughters, Margaret Ann Bentrup and husband, Dale of Ft. Worth, Texas, Thelma Jean Liggett and husband, Max D. of Greensburg, Kansas and Barbara Kay Leo and husband, Frank of Hays, Kansas; Nine grandchildren and Nine great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother, John Thonhoff; and three sisters, Anna Hoeme, Louise Palmer, and Clara Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2009, at Saint John Lutheran Church, Meade, with the Reverend Lynn E. Spencer presiding. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
The family would welcome memorials to the Saint John Lutheran Church Building Fund or Meade District Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
